The result was the undeniably entertaining and artistically fascinating Batman Returns, which unfortunately also contained excessive violent and sexually suggestive content, making it problematic for WB. brought him back for the sequel, promising him far more creative freedom. Hoping to replicate his winning formula, Warner Bros. The superhero film genre was propelled into the modern era with Burton’s first Batman movie in 1989.
